New podcast series on the implementation of the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019
The safe staffing programme team has been working hard behind the scenes to produce a series of podcasts on the implementation of the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 (HSCA). The Act commenced on 1 April 2024, setting out requirements for safe staffing across all health and care services in Scotland.
In this series of podcasts, we find out how the Care Inspectorate, registered services, professional bodies, integrated and local authorities prepared for the Act. We also explore what it means for people, young adults and children experiencing care, and staff working on the ground.
The podcasts were co-produced with HCSA stakeholders and partners. We hope you enjoy them.

Financial transparency and profit limitation in children's residential care consultation
The Financial transparency and profit limitation in children's residential care consultation is now open. This consultation relates to provisions made in the Children and Young People (Care and Services Planning) (Scotland) Bill, which was introduced to Parliament on 17 June 2025. The legislation is being developed in order to meet the commitments made in The Promise, and to ensure that excessive profits are not being gained through the care of children is an important section of this work. There will be an accompanying Business Regulatory Impact Assessment (BRIA) that will be published and circulated in due course.
Survey for charities working with children and young people
The Information Commissioner's Office would like to hear from Scottish charities that are working with children and young people (age 0 to 25), and who are storing, collecting, or sharing their personal information. They would like to hear about any challenges or questions you may have about data protection law to help them understand how they can support you in using personal data in a responsible way. This survey will close at the end of August and should take around 15 minutes to complete.
