Volunteering Awards - Deadline Extended

 

We have extended the deadline for entries from Sunday 21 April to 11.59am on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Even more time to tell us about your success stories and shine a light on the vital role of volunteering in Fife!

Any member of the public can nominate a volunteer or voluntary organisation from the third sector.

This year's awards' ceremony will take place on Wednesday 05 June at Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline and promises to be a special evening for nominees.

Dunfermline restaurant to donate £750 to charity each month

Dhoom Indian Streatery & Bar in Dunfermline has revealed it has given away £4,250 in donations so far this year.  They have now pledged to contribute £750 every month to a different local charity or group.

Updates from DWP

Department for Work and Pensions have issued a few updates:

·     Citizens Advice will continue to deliver Help to Claim support independently

·     DWP have launched a new Support with Employee Health and Disability service

 

 

 

British Muslims give 4x more to charity and volunteer more than the British average

A new report by Blue State aimed to understand and uncover key behaviours, trends and drivers in Muslim giving.

1/3 of people who signed up last year said they went back to volunteer again with the same organisation after their initial activity

 

 

 

Scottish Climate Change People's Panel Report Published

The report found that the Scottish Government is not doing enough to engage the public on climate change and Scotland's climate change targets.

 
 

 

Why the happiest volunteers are

those over the age of 40

The positive association between volunteering and good mental health becomes apparent at around the age of 40 and continues into old age.

 

FVA Training and Learning

 

Our Lunchtime Learning sessions are short and bite-sized, focusing on topics integral to the provision of our services. These hour-long learning sessions are perfect to dip into a topic and keep up-to-date with services and policy.

 

Lunchtime Learning - Our Fife and the Cost of Living

Thursday 09 May, 12.00-1.00, online

Audrey Cunningham, Benefit Take Up Campaign Lead, will provide an overview of the campaign, explain how they'll coordinate activity between statutory and third sector agencies, offer access to training and campaign materials, and provide resources.

 

Our forums provide an impartial and safe platform for services in Fife to discuss important topics, learn about key updates and network with peers. To take part, just sign up to attend!

 

Fife Employability Forum

The Fife Employability Forum is held quarterly and brings together staff and managers involved in employability services from all sectors - aiming to help organisations to work together to improve employment outcomes for people in Fife.

 

Health and Social Care Forum

Thursday 09 May, 10.00-12.00, Caledonia House Glenrothes

Our forum is open to any third sector organisation working within the health and social care sector in Fife. The forum is a fantastic space for third sector colleagues to come along and hear about key developments in health and social care in Fife and nationally, discuss significant issues and network with other third sector organisations.

 

Voluntary Sector Children‘s Services Forum

Thursday 23 May, 10.00-12.30, New Volunteer House Kirkcaldy

The forum meets regularly to provide information updates, offer networking opportunities, problem solve, respond to consultations, raise concerns for representatives and particularly Fife Voluntary Action to progress.

 

Changes to Disclosure/PVG processes

Thursday 25 April, 2.00-3.30, online

We will cover the main changes to disclosures and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about how this will impact you and the services being provided. We will also cover how you can feed into the current consultation regarding the PVG fee waiver for volunteers.

 

Exploring Community Development

Thursday 25 April, 10.00-12.30, Caledonia House Glenrothes

The event will explore what community development means to you. Participants will have an opportunity to meet other community development practitioners and participate in discussion groups about your role in community development and what it means to your organisation.

Training and Learning Opportunities

 

 

Scottish Communities Climate Action Network - Become a Climate Facilitator

SCCAN is recruiting and training facilitators to run climate conversations throughout Scotland. Participants must be able to commit 2-4 hours per week for a minimum of six months.

 

 

LinkLiving Employability Courses - Move On Up and Step On

LinkLiving have recently opened their Step On and Moving On Up programmes for referrals in Kirkcaldy. The courses will start in May and run for 12 weeks.

 

 

Fife Employment Access Trust - Canine Mindfulness Courses

Gus and Yorgi, two Australian Labradoodles and registered Therapets and their owner Dougie, a mindfulness teacher, will encourage participants to explore their lives more fully in a mindful way. 

Courses are planned to run in May 2024 through to March 2025 in venues across Fife.

 

 

Grace Chocolates- Employability Course

The employability and health and wellbeing courses start on 30 April. The service is suitable for any woman who has direct experience of the justice system.

 

 

Adult Support and Protection Practitioners Forum - Dates for 2024

The inter-agency forum provides representatives with a real opportunity to have a voice, to be consulted with, and involved in developing and improving practice.

 

 

Paths For All - Bums Off Seats walks

These short, volunteer-led health walks take place every week all across Fife. The aim is to encourage people to start walking regularly in their local area.

The Friendship Cabin - Music and Dance with David Hood

Friday 26 April, 3.30-6.30, Glenrothes

David Hood will provide his full repertoire giving everyone a chance to dance, quick, slow or waltz to country music or ballads. You can sign along if you like! 

The event is open to all and is a donations function.

Later this year, The Robertson Trust will be making changes to the structure of their funding programmes. They will be closed to new applications from 12 noon on 31 May 2024 and will reopen with updated criteria in September 2024.
