The Scottish Government has announced they will end the fee waiver pilot for PVG check costs and initial SSSC registration costs.  In January 2022, the Scottish Government announced the pilot for new staff taking up direct care posts in adult social care, along with comparable roles in children’s social care services and the justice sector.  The pilot ran until 31 March 2022 and was extended to 25 June 2022 to see if meeting the costs of PVG check costs, along with initial SSSC registration costs, would help to address recruitment challenges within the sector.

Following the analysis of the data obtained from local authorities and providers,  they have decided the pilot will end on Saturday 25 June as the results suggest that there has been no significant impact on recruitment.

This means that that any PVG or SSSC initial registration application submitted to Disclosure Scotland or SSSC after 25 June 2022 must pay an application fee.

To ensure employees can benefit from the fee waiver pilot, please encourage them to complete their application, and submit it to SSSC/ Disclosure Scotland by the deadline (midnight on 25th June).

The Scottish Government will continue to work closely with stakeholders to consider other ways to meet the recruitment pressures facing the sector.
