The Guidance for repurposing prescription only medicines (POMs) in care homes and hospices during the Covid-19 pandemic is being withdrawn and should no longer be used after Friday 31 March 2023. The associated Joint statement on ethical and professional decision-making and risk assessment will also be withdrawn.

Now that vaccines are providing protection and the current medicines supply chain supports timely access to medicines for care home residents, this guidance is no longer needed.

Any medicines that are being held by care homes for repurposing should be returned to the community pharmacy in the normal manner.
