The Dangers of white goods fires

New statistic`s reveal that Scottish Fire and Rescue crews were called to 327 white goods fires last year (2018).

The cause of these fires included:

  • Washing Machines – 121
  • Tumble Dryers – 111
  • Fridges/Freezers 53
  • Dishwashers – 33
  • Washing/dryers combined – 5
  • Spin Dryers – 4

Make your home a safer place. Do not leave appliances on when you go out or go to bed.

Deputy Chief Officer David McGown – Director of Prevention and Protection said; “We all need to be aware of the potential dangers posed by the unsafe use of white goods. The risk of fire from white goods is one which we all face.

There are simple steps to reduce risk to yourself, your family and all that is important to you. The message is clear: use your white goods safely. Don`t risk it. If you`re out or asleep, it`s just not on.”

It also important to highlight these issues to tenants who use Fife Council communal laundrettes. Never leave the laundries while machines are operating.
