Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a long-term (chronic), fluctuating, neurological condition that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, more commonly the nervous and immune systems. M.E. affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide.

Action for M.E. have volunteer peer mentors in Fife who can support people who live with M.E. and their carers to increase their ability to self-manage and live well. The mentors have experience of living with M.E. or caring for someone with M.E. They have been trained and are supported by Action for M.E. to empower people to manage their symptoms, roles or deal with change.

Being mentored has led people to feel more confident in their ability to manage and balance their life and it has made them feel understood and less alone while living with a difficult health condition.
